Habit is just a specific action that you performed several times. By doing this your conscious brain shift this action into your subconscious. That’s why all of your habits happen automatically by you because it is stored in your subconscious.
For example, In the morning after waking up, the first thing you do is your morning habit. If you drink bed tea all the time then your body starts craving for it, if you check your social media right after opening your eyes then you would see that your hand automatically picks the phone. Or if you don’t want to do it then your brain starts sending your body a signal that what is happening and then the craving of doing things begin.
Your habits define your lifestyle, yourself, and most importantly your future. A habit can lead you to the top or even can dig you deeper and deeper. That’s why we say that adapt good habits rather than bad ones. But it’s not that much easy, many factors depend upon habit formation. And one of the important reasons is your accompaniment.
If your friends smoke in your free time, there is a very high chance that you will also start smoking because of your surroundings. Our body adapts behavior from our society very easily.
How Does A Habit Is Formed?
A habit is formed in your brain when you are continuously performing the four steps of habit formation.
The four steps of habit formation are;
Cue is basically a trigger that triggers your mind to do or to perform a specific action. After the cue of the trigger, your mind starts craving to perform the specific action that will reward your brain after the action.
After craving, you will start performing that action and then the reward came. Here the reward is Dopamine. Dopamine is a feel-good hormone for your brain. When you do this again & again this again will shift to your subconscious mind and it will become a habit.
How Can You Break A Bad Habit?
For building a good habit you must have to break your bad habits. For breaking your bad ones you just have to break the Habit cycle. With the passage of time, you will end up with your good habits.
Now if you seriously want to break your bad habits, you must have very high self-discipline because in the progress of breaking your bad habits your brain is going to send signals to your body for performing that specific action. It happens because your brain loves to feel good and I told you above that when you perform a specific action, dopamine(a feel-good hormone) releases.
If you don’t have very high self-discipline, you don’t have to worry just follow these steps:
I am taking an example of a masturbation addict person so that you can understand easily.
1. Start Delaying.
I mean to say that start delaying your cravings for watching porn. Start with small, if you masturbate 2 or 3 times a day. Start doing it once in a day and then once in 2 or 3 days and then once in a week.
2. Make A Goal.
By setting a goal you are giving directions to your brain. Instruct your brain for doing masturbation in a week. Don’t feel shy to fail, you will fail because you are fighting with your brain. But the important thing is to start again with great will power.
3. Never Try To Exceed Your Goal.
Never try this! Because if you try to exceed your expectations your brain will crash and you will start performing that action immediately due to frustration. So be in control.
4. Slowly Exceed Your Goal.
You should slowly exceed your goal like one or two days after completing your first goal. Remember if you want big, start small. By doing this your brain is not going to interrupt your goals.
5. Repeat This.
Now you just have to repeat the same cycle. By doing this you will end up leaving your bad habits. It’s not about just masturbation if you are smoker just follow these 5 steps and you will see that your bad habits are no more with you.
One thing I want to tell you is that you should have very strong self-discipline. Just don’t perform the specific action that you want to leave. You have to have a very strong will power the willpower that will give you a path to your brain.
